In Memoriam Terry Mourant

Bathurst New Brunswick Canada
Terrance “Terry” Mourant, 70, of College St.
and formerly of St. John St., Bathurst, passed away
on June 1, 2007 at Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst, New Brunswick, Canada.
Born in Bathurst, he was the only son of the late Exavier and Lucienne (Cormier) Mourant.
He was a Radio Broadcaster at the former CKBC Radio Station.
I have met him the first time during The Ice storm of 1998 in Montreal, Canada.

The Ice storm of 1998 …also known as Ice Storm 1998… was a massive ice storm that struck a relatively narrow swath of land from Eastern Ontario to southern Quebec to Nova Scotia in Canada, and bordering areas from Northern New York to Southeast Maine in the United States, in January 1998. It caused massive damage to trees and electrical infrastructure all over the area, leading to widespread long term power outages. Millions were left in the dark for periods varying from days to weeks, leading to more than 30 fatalities, a shut down of activities in large cities like Montreal and Ottawa and an unprecedented reconstruction effort of the power grid.

We had so much fun during these days, talking and eating till 2 o’clock in the morning. He was always asking questions….the radio interviewer.
When I could get the latest plane of American Airlines to Vegas, Terry could not go back to Bathurst and had to stay for several days in Montreal. Even he could not do much over there during the ice storm, he did some volunteer work during his stay in Montreal. Always doing the right thing….
