kbc-heart

Hi this is Roger Dee who presents the weekends 3am to 4am programmes on Big L, I just wanted to let you all know due to heavy commitments regrettably I have been left with no alternative other than to step down from presenting my weekly shows on the station, however I am glad to say that I will be moving to standby duties at Big L so from time to time I will still be presenting shows on the station.

I hope 2010 is a great year for Big L, with such a great team of presenters and with Eric`s expertise I am sure things will just get better and better.

Roger Dee.

  1. The suspense is killing—come on Eric, open up to us poor listeners.

  2. It should say “Coming soon… a new Flutisat advert.” ;)

  3. Not fair you dropping the Wolfman!!
    Not happy about that. :0(

    Shelley.
l dont happen to like Rosko

  4. Or at least bring TODAY’S Wolfman Randall Lee Rose

  5. Goedenavond Great to hear that you are coming over to Medium wave.
I enjoy the shows on SW but reception is poor here in the West Coast of Scotland

Now if you could only relay the occasional RNI show too, perhaps Mark De Haan or Ferry Eden, or one of the english language shows?

  6. Interesting news! I’m waiting for the good news.

    Regards,
    Arvid.

  7. Reception is quite good on 6055 kHz. But I doubt if I will vbe able to receive anything on medium waves.

  8. Shame leaving the SW, good reception in Wales (Aberdaron), Hessen (Rüsselsheim) and S’hampton. On every set I use old and new alike – whatever I have on me. Not sure if reception will be as good (or at all) on MW.

  9. It’s all very well going over to medium wave, but where will the transmitter be sited? I miss the Wolfman as it is, it would be even worse to not be able to hear the station at all!

  10. Perhaps you keep thinking that most of your listeners are around the corner…Wrong: I’m in COSTA RICA. Well, sorry to learn that you’re leaving short wave. Haven’t read any explanations here. Anyway, will it be possible listen KBC on line?
    Kind regards. Raúl

  11. 1395 KHz late evenings. Daytime will be OneGold.
Actually launch date uncertain but watch this space !!

  12. quote: “Our new frequency is . 9 . 5 kHz AM….all night long!!!”
hmm ??? – seems that I have to buy a new radio now in Russia ;-)

  13. aha – see the “9″ got corrected now and has been taken out again ;-)

  14. It was actually me having some fun. :)

  15. You’re a funny man Chirpy! ;d

  16. Hi i hope it is 1395 but it needs a lot more power 100kw not 20kw and beamed into south east into London.

  17. Something not right here———sources say overnight service to be broadcast under name of OneGold in style of OneGold so KBC/BigL will lose its identity. This is wrong, all Eric’s hard work has been wasted and KBC disappears into the wastebin.Has this really been thought out or is everyone bowing down to MR?Eric will always have my support.

  18. There are now less than 10 days to go before KBC stops its short wave service. Isn’t it about time we were told some FACTS?
Will it or won’t it be 1395KHz?
Where will the transmitter be located?
Will we be able to hear the Wolfman?
…or is this the end of the KBC we know and love?

  19. **95

    1395?

    Arvid.

  20. keeping us in suspence…. 95khz is too low for us to go :-)

  21. tell us before we find something else to listen to….

  22. Vic said, “tell us before we find something else to listen to….”
Well until we know for definite, you can hear Roger Davis, Monday to Friday on Big L from 2pm till 6pm. Chloé and me can be heard on Saturday afternoon from 4pm-6pm. The show is repeated on Tuesday evening from 9pm-11pm. All times are UK time.

For a full schedule, take a look here.

  23. The only medium wave frequency in Europe ending in 95 is …………………………… 1395khz. Yippee.
    Hope it happens soon !

  24. 6095 kHz is it that frequency??

  25. [...] while the last shows on shortwave are posted on Listen Again. Posted by Administrator on Tuesday, September 29, 2009, at 4:06 pm. Filed under English. Follow [...]

  26. . 3 9 5 Only one digit to go. :)

  27. thanks for the info Chirpy, I will probably listen to 0199 :-) for a while, I guess K-Po will be off air for a while then ?

  28. Woh! exciting! *395

can I make some sales in advance?

  29. Well it’s the 30th at 21:34 and I’m tuned to 6055KHz hoping to hear the last S/W broadcast and guess what?…..nothing! Has someone forgotten to put a token in the meter?

  30. After a SMS to Lithuania…somebody started the TX…….
    Wow….after all some luck…
The show will be published as listen again…..

  31. Not sure if it is the final show but something has just come on the air? “Going back to Arizona” is playing.

  32. Ah….at 21:45 it seems someone in Lithuania has realised that they shouldn’t have turned the transmitter off quite so early!

  33. Yes, here we are, that’s your voice Eric

  34. Well done guys!

  35. Did he say 1386KHz?

  36. The good thing is that I just received a phone call from Lithuania, thanks to this fast action…we are back…the first missing 15 minutes are on listen again….

  37. 1386…is an old KBC jingle we used in 2006 in Lithuania…

  38. Ah a touch of nostalgia!

  39. Also a BIG THANK YOU for all those people sending e-mails to info@k-po.com and kbc@planet.nl

  40. Hey Eric, you never told me you were going to reverse the charge and make me pay for the phone call. ;)

  41. so how long do we have to wait for the medium wave Tx to have the dust blown off the valves ?

  42. Hi all,

Todays Daily Mail,(01/10/2009), features article in which Mike Read says OneGold starting next month,Nov?), on 1395. Is KBC/Big L sharing this frequency? Chirps/Admin, please advise as hungry for info.

    Best regards

    fingers

  43. Our new frequency is ? 3 9 5 kHz AM….all night long!!!

  44. Every one seems to assume that KBC is moving to MW…
    Perhaps it’s 7395KHz?!

  45. Tell us more! Gotta be 1395 but when?

  46. Sorry Harry, at this point in time, even we don’t know the “when”.

  47. I was at a radio related event yesterday and overheard a discussion relating to 1395. The feeling was that the money behind OneGold had cold feet at the last minute, hence the silence. I butted in and asked if the chap if he felt this was just a hiccough and his opinion was that despite all the good feeling towards the project the financial realties made it unlikely to go ahead. I have no idea of this chaps background or his credibility but he appeared to have more info than he was willing to reveal and seemed genuinely sad that the project had stalled. Everyone has their opinion I suppose and only time will tell.

  48. Our new frequency is… revealed at last: 1 3 9 5 :)

  49. What’s stopping KBC coming onto 1395KHz?
Is it technical, financial or political? (Or all three!?)

  50. It sounds good, nearly too good to be true;)
let’s discuss the name of the station during daytime, i mean One Gold…nah Radio Fenix for example sounds better, it is the 3th time 1395 returns as half UK station;)

  51. Slogan could be: Out of the ashes of BigL this is………………………Fenix 1395 tadaaaaaaaaaaa

  52. ERIC , HOPE THE MEDIUMWAVE-TRANSMITTER
    WILL SOON BE ON.

AS I UNDERSTAND, IT ALL DEPENDS
ON THE FOLKS IN THE U.K.

    GEETINGS JOS, THE NETHERLANDS.

    P.S WILL WATCH THE 1395 A.M

  53. Good news Chirpy! Come on One Gold!

  54. It’s quite a shame that the shortwave broadcasts aren’t going on(for the time being?)because for us over here in America that is all we had to listen to your truly wonderful programming.

    – Mike

  55. echo mike’s comments, not sure why the shortwave service was cut before there was RF comming out the transmitter on MW for a few days.

  56. Hello Mike, Vic and everyone else who contacted the station when it was running on Short-wave. Although Chloé and me are both looking forward to the new venture, we will really miss reading the reception reports which came in from all over the world. It gave us quite a ‘buzz’ knowing that people thousands of miles away were listening to us on their radio sets and enjoying the music we played. We only hope that this will continue in some way.

    73 & 88 :)

    Chloé & Chirps

  57. Name & DJ’s, Ooh, when can we be told? Any new names? Famous names (infamous as well Chirpy :-) )

  58. Harry wrote: “Name & DJ’s, Ooh, when can we be told?”
If you listen to the playout tune at the end of the final Chloé & Chirps show, you’ll hear us mention the (possible) name for the station Harry. ;)

  59. I can’t wait for the return of BIGL and good music in the air. I’m do happy that this probably will hapen.

  60. Whoopee!!! 1st November 2009. That’s a Sunday – I’m off that day! :D

  61. Hahaha, Chirpy! well, I’m looking forward to it. thanks KBC!

  62. Wy the braodcast in Holland whit 25 Kw, you are englisch, wy not the braodcast in England whit 5 Kw , thats kost nearly energie and the listners have a better reqest

to get a licence in the UK you need millions of pounds and you have to broadcast what the licencing authority tell you to, not what you want to and it will be on a frequency that will give you limited coverage.

believe me, it’s not an option…

that’s why people go off shore or inercontinental now.

  65. I am so pleased to see that the Wolfman will be back! He’s the whole reason I started to listen to KBC!
Hope all goes well guys, I wish you all the best of luck bringing BigL back to 1395!

  66. Nice that Big L will return on 1395 AM. I hope that the reception in England and also in Holland will be good. Perhaps more power for a beter signal than the 10 kw ?

  67. oes anyone have the times the transmitter is allowed to be switched on and has to be swiched off by every night? maybe I will be able to set my alarm clock radio to 1395.

  68. Hi Vic, it’s only closing between 19.00 – 22.00 UTC

  69. Regardless of what format you continue in I wish you only the best luck. I really did enjoy actually hearing music over shortwave which is something that seems so few and far between these days. It really was a breath of fresh air.

Looks like I’ll need to use a web controlled receiver(a la Globaltuners)to listen to you guys on 1395 now. =)

  70. Mike, perhaps you can listen via the internet, we are working on that as well, but it will be without the lovely fading etc.
The format will be mainly the same as on shortwave.
In Zwolle in the Netherlands there is a web-receiver….

  71. Mike, maybe I could set you one up in the uk, then you may get the fading ;-)

  72. The fading is part of the experience!

Globaltuners is actually a large network of online web based receivers so that you can tune into programs that perhaps you may not receive at your home location using a receiver in another location(most of them are in Europe).

    It’s a very handy tool.

  73. I hope all is going to plan for the return of KBC to the airwaves on 1st November. 1395 am in my neck of the woods, (Croydon, Surrey, UK), is not too bad during darkness when the `” skywave ” kicks in.
Does anyone have any information as to whether the TX is being modified by removal of the directional reflectors? I understand that the transmitter output is capped due to local restrictions. However, I look forward to tuning in and wish all concerned the very best of luck.

    fingers

  74. Bit worried about this DJ called “coming soon” hope he’s just a good friend.
Seriously—good line-up with nice variety–can’t wait to actually hear it happening.
Well done Roger and Eric for bringing real life back to the radio.

  75. I guess there may have been more dust than expcted on those valves then ?

  76. Anyone know the make and model of the transmitter, anyone got any pictures of it?

  77. By next weekend, do you mean 14th?

  78. Yes that’s correct Harry.

  79. Thanks Eric. Looking forward to hearing MW sound so good again.

  80. Eric, I need some help with the popcorn and ice cream, there is quite a long queue. I will also need some eggs next week for Erwin & Erwin. :)

  81. I think that or BP, Novec or AT needs some spanking, it is really frustrating and i do not understand all the delays….

  82. Yes Peter, it is frustrating for us too, we are all ready and raring to go. We feel like passengers waiting to board our ship but have been informed that there is a delay. We spend hours and hours with our eyes fixed on the announcement board to see when our ship can finally set sail. Unfortunately it is not in our hands, we have to be patient… but it will happen.

  83. maby it is an idea to give on the site exact info about the organsation that is delaying the restart….

  84. well i see now that 1395 has a station on it from kent called wnkr a local pirate with some am power.well better hope thay give way or that will blow the signal for essex and kent..

  85. The owner has said they will vacate 1395 as soon as Big L returns.

  86. Just sittin’ and waitin’ and wishin’ and stugf.

    Well worth the wait tho’

Can I have a Cornetto please?

  87. Oops, It was me last post, not cousin Banacle.

Damn these rough seas, makes it difficult to trype

  88. Was that just one Cornetto Barnacle Bill? :)

  89. Back to shortwave for a while then ?

  90. Well finally, the so-called OneGold muppets have decided to pull away from 1395—-perhaps this now gives BigL/KBC more room to manoever and perhaps bring others onboard to help pay the fees—–there are some great stations out there waiting for a chance to bolster their audiences or some well known ex-am stations perhaps wanting to re-emerge such as 10gold, Arrow, Caroline etc, all firm favourites with the English and The Cloggies——–ideas abound.
Hope King Roger and King Eric have ideas as well—-this could be the chance of a lifetime to bring back “REAL RADIO”

  91. There’s a rumour that One Gold are trying to get Trevor Bayliss to sponsor them – didn’t he invent ‘Wind-Up’ Radio? :D

  92. The only serious people in the system seem to be Roger and Eric—-OneGold seems to have been the wind-up and perhaps a nasty obstacle to overcome before BigL/KBC could return——my conjecture, no-one elses.
The objective is to get music on 1395am—-let’s hope it’s soon.

  93. I just hope that the silence about 1395 is because, this time, nothing is being said UNTIL it happens, rather than because it’s not going to happen.
What sort of problem can it be that does not become apparent until after the start date and still take a long while to resolve?
Sorry…. I need some postive news. My glass has fallen back from half full to half empty.
I now know how young kids feel when they ask “When will we be there?” or “Are we nearly there yet?”, only to keep being told to wait a little longer.

  94. #6 If it’ll make you feel any better… “My cup runneth over”.
As wise King Solomon once said: “For everything there is an appointed time… a time to keep quiet and a time to speak”.
    Regards, Chirps

  95. If a girl is 1 month over time than baby is arriving in 8 months

  96. I’m now offering 1395kHz broadcaster to hire our SW facility towards benelux or other areas with a power of 10-20 kW.Several antenna beams.Several TX.

  97. sounds like an offer a good radio station can not afford to refuse :-)

  98. Sounds nice but KBC can use the 9770 every day from 9.30 am till 16.30 pm, that one is 5 times stronger

  99. Maby a digital coffeemachine on the site is an option?

  100. Latest News
    Waiting it is frustrating!!!

    Yep
    And no girl no curl

  101. Just wanna Big L up and running up to December… Second Christmas without Big L is frustrating (by the same way as waiting!!!)

  102. why not put the previous nights programmes on during the daytime until You can find another station or something to fill in this slot? John from Stoke.

  103. Great to have Big L back on 1395AM
Reception in Margate is very good , especially on my car radio.
Love the oldies format and the jingles
Thanks for bringing the sound of free radio back to the AM airwaves.

    Paul & Sally

  104. I’m really enjoying the continuous music during the day, including some lesser-known tracks and rarities together with jingles (it’s good to hear ‘yesterplay,’ one I associate with Paradijs and Veronica – a few more would be even better!) The variety is refreshing, including several interesting records from the pre-Beatles era. The ‘missing link’ for me is midnight-06.00; I need the URL for the new streaming, to add it to the ‘favourites’ on my radio.

  105. We found the missing comments:

@Jos: I think they secured that in July this year. The source of delay seems to have another source, like the bureaucratic system here in Holland..

    Hello Jos,

There are many speculative comments and rumours on various forums, but that is all they are. We gave the reason a few weeks ago but some people doubted us. When there is news you will either read it here or hear about it from Roger on Big L. In the meantime, please be patient.

Chirpy, you are right but I have never heard that a company that can make money by pushing the transmitterbutton in the “on” position delays this, i mean every day no signal costs them money too.
I guess it is not such a bad idea to put some pepper in the ass of a certain Dutch bureaucratic organisation that is the source for a lot of delays for a lot of licenced AM broadcasters.

Discovered 1395 up-and-running at c.16.5 this afternoon; I was a bit surprised it was back so soon after reading the Radio Nederland website this morning which gave the impression that it could be a further few vdays – although they did say the return was imminent. Very strong in Fulham, with intermittent fading.

23.14 Heard the start at 23.00:
Seagulls are on the corect audio level for AM but KBC commercial and Jack sounds botha bit slizzy, i mean, it is just a matter of less high, lots more bass and the midfreq a bit up. Than it is perfect, remember: AM can handle 140% audio input, result is better sound under 1 condition: Use only freq 100 till 8000 Hz for audio, increasing under 100 Hz gives the typical Eastern 1323 rumble and above the 8000 Hz isound is starting to sizzle

Superb signal here in Doncaster South Yorkshire, strong enough for car radio reception.
It makes me ashamed of any doubts I may have had, well done everyone.

Well done everybody. My patience has been rewarded.
Nice signal here in Andover during hours of darkness.Maybe not quite as strong as BigL was in the past but still very good.
Will be interesting to see what daytime signal is like tomorrow, had to use my Anoraks UK frame aerial before to get average signal.
Hope this report of interest and things go from strength to strength for you all.

I tried to publish a short promotion for the station at WUZ.nl, result I got banned coz of making promotion for a radiopirate….for those that can read Dutch, here is the small submission:

    Peter

I think they do not read or they are jealouse coz The Telegraaf is also CEO of several rtv stations.
Strange thing is that in the past they never made problems about it

Well I unfortuneately missed the start last night (?) but I’m tuned to the Wolfman right now on 1395 and WOW, what a signal! S9 +20 to 30dB on a Kenwood TS850 fed from an untuned 90 foot doublet antenna and a very acceptable signal on my Sony SW7600GR portable……you guys sure that’s only a 20KW transmitter! Luxembourg on 1440 is only a couple of dB stronger! Well done guys, so glad to hear the Wolfman again! Best of luck!

  107. thanks for the pictures, nice signal overnight in central UK, occasionally ok in the car in the morning after sun rise, better in the evenings when dark.

Is it run off a generator all the time ?

    Keep it comming

  108. Hi Vic,
Yes the generator is doing all the work.

  109. Hi Eric,

Which type of optimod from Orban are you guys using? It sounds very loud and crisp. Maybe some pics from the transmitter and optimod in action available for the freaks here ;-) . Would be much appreciate.

    Thanks.

    Good luck,

    Marco

  110. I’m really enjoying the continuous music during the day, together with ads roughtly 20/50 mins past the hour and a fair sprinling of jingles, including ‘yesterplay,’ which I associate with Paradijs and Veronica – a few more would be even better. It’s great to hear the lesser-known tracks, plus a few requiring a bit of research. I hope that whoever takes on the daytime hours does something similar. I admire the spirit and enthusiasm to do something different from the usual delivery of Top 3 oldies.

  111. Hi all,

Last nights reception not too good my area, lots of fading and phasing. However, signal this morning is more robust and listenable away from electrical interferrance, central heating pumps and those bloody low energy light bulbs etc. Iam enjoying the variety of programmes including the Dutch ones. Good to hear some adverts, especially the one for Scania, a very encouraging sign.

  112. Hello,
i´m very happy to hear: 1395 is back!!
But here in North Germany, the problem is the mighty Albania or Lebanon Radio Station in the evening.
Unfortunately, the Big L signal is to small.
    I have a dream:
Big L via Luxembourgs mighty 1440 kHz.
In the Daytime Big L and in Nighttime Radio Luxemborg 208 or similar. And with this DJs: Dave Christian, Benny Brown, Shaun Tilley and Mike Hollis.
    Alright..?
    E.Ennulat

  113. Yes, I agree with Eugen, Albania or whatever is too close. For undisturbed listening is BigL too weak. It´s a shame that BigL is sharing the frequency with TWR. The evening is the most attractive time for listening. But I´m glad that you´re broadcasting at all. I´m sure I´m not the only one!
    Good job and best regards

    Ondrej Babka (Mr. X), CZE

  114. What else is there left to say? Just well done to Roger/Eric and all at BigL/KBC——amazing how so few have bought happiness to so many—–I and my many forum[s] supporters from across Europe wish you the greatest of success with this venture——-Rock on BigL.
    Reaper.

  115. Good to hear all our new PAMS jingles Eric, I shall look forward to using them. :)

  116. Hi all,
I have just got back from visiting my folks in Jersey and had a pleasant surprise after tuning to 1395 in the Hertz hire car. Big L barely audible in daylight, but during darkness it was booming in and seemed stronger than the signal I receive on mainland UK,(Croydon, Surrey). I also heard some of the new jingles during overnight broadcasts including Big L goes Dutch, all good stuff, please keep it going. There was a bit of fading and overlap from a nearby French station, but it was not a big problem.

  117. Hi folks, after 1600 CET i heard BigL in my mercedez van in the south of sweden, but who was th dj??? strong clear signal, hardly no dading.
brigth and clear until 1800, then fading out and in.

  118. That would have been Roger Davis. Here’s the daytime schedule: http://www.bigl.co.uk/schedule
    All times are UK times.

  119. David Belcher’s Soul Show is FAB-YOU-LUSS!!!! More, more, more!!!
    Yow-zah!!!

  120. 1395 completely off the air on Saturday December 19th.at 09.00 CET.
    What”s happening? Minus 10 degrees?

  121. Its back! Go on!

  122. Still listening as much as possible.Nice to see the audio quality has improved since the start .

    Eric
How about some BigL International 1395/KBC T-Shirts made for next summer weather/promotion purposes?
Would love one to replace my old ‘SKY 0190′ BigL shirt.

Thanks again for getting 1395 active.

  123. Hmm, it is the 20th of December, 23.24 GMT plus 1, I listen via the online Ham radio at Bedfordshire but there is something under the BigL1395 signal and I am sure it does not belong there.
It is not the Albanian signal, it is completely on channel….
I dunno if more ppl in the UK have this problem at the moment….

  124. Even at my portable in Holland it sounds if something is pushing the signal back, can be the conditions but i do not believe that for real. My home is too close to the transmittersite to have such heavy fading…

  125. 23.36 GMT plus 1 The disturbing signal is off, probably conditions but something to stay alert on;)

  126. Something about music choice…..During the night I love it to listen but at daytime…pffff, I am 54 but the music that the UK is playing, most of that records are even be4 I came on this planet;)

  127. Exactly at 00.00 GMT plus it happens again, souds like there is a radio carrier under the signal, not normal fading ( UK ) but kinda bumping, if it is jumped back, no idea about this…

  128. I have the same problem. But I thought it is happening due to normal fading-effect (I am too far from tx – fading here is normal), but it was stronger and for longer time. Perhaps somebody is going to jam you =-O

  129. Hi folks, if the antenna on pic is not vertical, it gives less groundwave during dayligth hours and a little more fading.
Happy news from Sweden, the proposal is published of new radio.New licences on AM/FM/ DRM and DRM+.
All broadcasting bands below 30 MHz, am or drm. Community radio on am, low power. increased areas to communityradio on FM, a couple of new 500 watts FM TX to each licence.
    New AM/FM licence on bids.

  130. This posting I picked up from Boardhost:

Posted by peter moore on December 18, 2009, 7:14 pm

    Hi Guys,

Over the years I have watched many independent satellite stations launch and fail, such as Nova, QEFM, Merlin and R.T.I. I am sure there are more that I have forgotten.

Many years ago an old pal Gerry Wright ( Captain Haddock ) rang me up and he was very angry. He played me some output from the new Sat station European Klassik Rock and said ‘ this is what YOU should be doing ‘.

EKR also failed and we took their channel. Caroline has been reliably on satellite now for ten years. We would like to expand, but we don’t have the budget.

When Big L on 1395 came along, Some people again said ‘ this is what YOU should be doing ‘ but my sadly missed friend Tony Allan took me aside and said ‘ don’t worry dear boy, they will fail ‘ and indeed they did.

When Big L was looking close to the end I mailed the owners and said that if it ever came to the point of turning it off, they might consider as a last chance idea, taking our programming and ditching their staff and studios etc and just keeping a sales effort going to sell advertising for 1395, which I would insert in to our output.
They did not respond to this.

But, when the channel was silent I was approached to buy some hours and I asked for a price for up to and over Easter either 08 or 09 as a paid for experiment to test the reaction. Time passes so quick that I cannot remember if it was this year or last. Anyhow, I never got a price.

After the UK, our biggest audience is in Holland. The history of Caroline has long since been linked with the Netherlands. There is no doubt that Caroline on 1395 would have a far greater reaction in both territories, than a station with any other name.

But, you have to consider the ‘ anorak ‘ audience and the general public. The public are used to good reception, they will not tolerate a signal that is sometimes there and sometimes not, according to the time of day and time of year.

If the Mighty KBC ( whoever they are, I genuinely don’t know much about them ) wanted to take our output and insert local advertising they can certainly ask me.

I am not sure that even with the boost of the Caroline name, 1395 is truly viable for the UK. Jointly for the UK and Holland it may have a better chance.

But, we are very cautious and would not want to be connected with something that spectacularly crashed and burned.

    Peter Moore.

  131. Very interesting, Peter Moore`s posting on Boardhost, as reproduced on here by RNI2020.
I for one would not mind listening to Caroline on Am 1395 for some of the daytime. Their choice of music is more specialised and may not suit everyone. However, what a great gift for Eric, Big L and Caroline on the same frequency. Iam sure each station would compliment the other. Any comments Eric?

Best regards and compliments of the season to all.

    fingers

  132. And…at the Carolkine fanmailinglist group I found this posting from Roger Tricker:

Is this a reflection of your car radio’s performance or tuning or are you expecting FM quality from a foreign AM tx?
In the last two weeks I have driven from Suffolk, through Essex and through much of Kent, on a few occasions. I have listened to car radios in a Mazda, a Vauxhall and a Renault. With the exception of immediately adjacent to the Dartford crossing, on both sides, 1395 has been perfectly listenable.

There is a short problem time which is at dusk, when groundwave fades before the skywave kicks in properly.
So apart from approx 3:30 – 4:00pm and by the Dartford crossing it’s OK for me. This is not a perfect situation but “completely wiped out” and “the same result in the car” is a significant exaggeration in the cars I drove.

It is an alternative to the ‘Borg’. Let’s be grateful for that.

  133. I was interested to read the comments re interference on 1395. At c17.15 yesterday a friend from north London rang me to say an Irish landbased pirate called Dublin’s Energy was on the frequency. When I checked it a few minutes later (in Fulham) I found it wasn’t strong enough to identify but presumed they must have been causing the ‘flutter’ whenver Big L ‘dipped,’ plus more fading than u

  134. Just got a message that the sifnal in Bournemouth is perfect during night time.

  135. Is it possible that the meltdown (or air pressure changes) in Czechia could change the reception conditions? Yesterday was the signal really excellent (I’ve never heard Big L in that brilliant quality!). I guess SINPO could be 44544. Thank you for your answers. I wish you Veselé Vánoce a šťastný nový rok, too!

    Ondra

  136. Fortunately 1395 has been clear of the offending station on Tuesday and Wednesday, thus the absence of ‘flutter.’ Listening in Fulham the daytime signal is inferior to previous occasions, with more fluctuation after dark, so a landbased pirate with a power of 300w can be quite noticeable. The point about increased fading due to the positioning of the aerial sounds interesting. I put it down to ‘the London factor;’ I’ve found that the signal is as strong and more consistent than it is here!

  137. 23:45 CET – good signal over here in Munich/Bavaria
    I enjoy JE show,
Have been listening in the car (bad signal when tramway-wires are above the street) now at home it is okay – some fading of course..

  138. Thanks everybody for the positive response to Big L & the nighttime programmes. Being a DJ on 1395 AM is great, but reading your comments is even better :)

    Regards,
    Mike Wilson

  139. I think ity should be good for BigL1395 to repeat the presented night at daytime, Roger can easy take over at 3 pm than.
Night at BigL1395 is too good for only the night;)
    I am serious about this

  140. Something for the techman: Be so kind to tune up the audio input into the transmitter at 110 percent, this gives better modulation at the long distance ( up to factor 3 ). . The transmitter can hick a bit after doing this but modulation is poor, I have heard several stations on AM, like Caroline at 531, they forces modulation upt to 110 percent and in Caroline’s case, their normal reach at 100 percent modulation is 30 km but by forcing up to 110 percent modulation it is 70 till 90 km ( LPAM transmitter )
If used for 1395….I guess you understand;)

  142. Hey, I receive some strange signals on 1395 now, at 19:31 CET. Somebody is breaking your programme with saying some numbers and “dots”. I didn’t catch it, but it was something like “six, four, dot, one, dot, nine, nine…” This was repeated three times, I think… Are you experimenting with something, or is it someone else?
    Ondra

  143. It’s nothing to worry about Ondra, it was Roger, he had to reset a couple of things.

    Chirpy

  144. The following post is From the Friends of Big L site and i agree with it.

    Hi folks,

I am a long-time listener, old enough to have turned in to 208 with a 9-volt transistor radio. I’m also a big offshore radio fan, have had some favorite land-based ‘pirates’, and for the most part have enjoyed Big L — before, during and after the 1395 silence.

I live in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and am thrilled to hear the station back on the AM. It sounds just like the offshore stations of the seventies.

The selection of tunes is great, and though I also listen to Radio Caroline and , I keep coming back to the Big L.

But… there’s somewhat of a problem: the ads.

Don’t get me wrong. I know all about the need to pay the bills, the fact that the station is sponsored, and the need to attract more advertisers. No problem, really. In fact, I still enjoy hearing ads

But — and here’s my complaint — do the ads have to be so intrusive and/or annoying?

The intrusive ads are those by KBC Imports. They’re simply too long.

The dumb ads are those in-house things — particularly the Dutch-language ones — meant to recruit other advertisers. They are meant to be funny, but they’re not — especially when you have to sit through them more than once. In fact, they are mind-jarringly stupid, and I can not imagine that they would attract the kind of advertisers the station needs.

Then there’s that Dutch ‘roadshow’ ad. Why does the guy have to sound like he’s on drugs? What serious media buyer is going to want to spend money on a station that apparently so seriously misjudges its audience?

Over the past week I have got to the point where I turn the station off whenever I hear another one of those ads. And some day soon I may not switch it on again, in favor of one of the many online stations that do play the music I like without insulting or annoying me with mindless ads.

Don’t get me wrong here. I am posting this out of frustration, because I do like Big L a lot. I just don’t think I’m the only one who notices that the type of in-house/sponsor ads currently being aired appear to be inappropriate.

  145. It’s fantastic to hear an original Radio London Fab 40 (from 6th August 1967) complete with all the original jingles booming out of my radio, brilliant! :)

  146. Hope that more old records will be presented! It’s excellent! It’s full of nostalgia and perfect songs.
    Thanks!

  147. Who played The Sundowners version of The House of The Rising Sun in the early hours of this morning? I was half awake listening to Big L and was truly gobsmacked to hear this blast from the past. I believe I met this band in the early sixties playing at The St Marys Bay Club in Kent. How did it get on the play list?
Was I dreaming? If you did play it then many thanks Big L, it took me back about 45 years to happier days.

  151. Hi Chirpy,

Many thanks for taking the trouble to locate the Sundowners track and providing the link to Mobile DJ Downloads.

I continue to listen to Big L when I can, on line by day and 1395 at night,(if I can stay awake). I also would like to hear some of the overnight programs repeated during the day instead of continuous music.
I know Roger is providing a link to a few repeats of overnight stuff which is greatly appreciated, but would like more.

    Keep up the good work.

    Best regards

  152. Sounds as though my bedtime listening to Big L at weekends is over. If I listen to Big L on AM 1395 it is more likely to be at the times of the Voice of England broadcasts. I suppose this is the price we have to pay to allow Big L to survive and continue with its very listenable music programs. The only upside is that the religeous stuff will get me off to sleep earlier.

  153. Reading that Roger is doing a step side???
For me no reason that he has to do this…..
Some points of interest: It seems to me that the signal is at the moment during daytime much better in the UK Eastern part.
That brings me to the next point: The nightprograms, can they be repeated during daytime form 7 am till 3 pm?
The nonstop seems to be not many times refreshed, still hearing the same songs at the same time.
So, till the start of the presented day programs….repeating the nightprograms, an idea?

  154. @Robin // Jan 9, 2010 at 12:09 am: Is this critical listener going to pay the diesel?
I mean…let him listen to online stations or cable radio, there a lot of SMS, toothpaste and other anoying commercials.
Sound of BigL1395 is different from other stations.
The roadsjoo commercial sounds as if the voice over is on drugs?? Bullshit, let the Amsterdam listerner tune in at 538, veronica of Slam, there the jocks and commercials are more important as the music.
For Eric: I miss still: Bakkerij het Stoepje, Stimorol, Goudhaantje ( yes it is back in the Aldi supermarkets )
For the rest: Maby an idea to introduce the 1395 Lois 4 grls&boiz top 40 on a saturday afternoon from 12 till 16?

  155. What the? Where the hell is the Wolfman tonight?

  156. At last…..so what happend to the first 15mins of the Wolf? Some one got finger trouble at BigL?!!!

  157. Hi Rob,
On the internet you will hear the complete W.J. show…on 1395 AM some days there are religious shows. When the religious shows are finished, the normal shows will fade in.
The Wolf is also on air during weekdays between 07.00 – 08.00 CET or 06.00 – 07.00 UK time

  158. Well, my dear admin, I made a point of listening to BOTH 1395 and the internet tonight….and guess what? No Wolfman on either, despite the fact that it said Wolfman on the air in the “listen now” window!

  159. Hi Rob,
Due to a technical problem there is/was no WJ. Show. All programmes are back to normal at midnight CET

  160. Really looking forward to listening to Radio Veronica this Saturday on 1395am
Great to be able to listen to Big L on the car radio here In Margate England , brings back great memories of classic radio which came from radio ships in the north sea.
Thanks for Keeping the spirit of free radio alive
    Keep up the good work
    Paul Whitworth

  161. BigL is not rocks anymore… between 2002-2006 there was not idiot pop / rap / R&B / hip-hop but now there is… We miss London Calling presenters specially Bex Marshall…

  162. What template do you use in your website

  163. Why am I listening to the SAME track over and over and over and over again tonight? Technical problems with Wolfman again?

  164. God squad everywhere tonight, 1395KHz, BIG L web site and 1395 website….no Wolf again
